Healthcare Therapy Services (HTS) and Hazard Health and Rehabilitation are celebrating National Rehabilitation Awareness Week September 18-24. Our theme this year: “Camp Cares-a-Lot.”
Every year, the National Rehabilitation Awareness Foundation designates the 3rd week in September to educate people about the benefits and impact of rehabilitation. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists all work together to help individuals overcome obstacles and accomplish normal tasks of daily living.

National Rehab Awareness Week at Hazard HRC was another success this year. The whole week was full of fun activities, games, arts and crafts, an ice cream social, and more delicious food! Many of the activities we did were educational–they taught how certain exercises improve different muscle groups of the body.

Another exciting part of the week was our visit from local high school students! We held a coloring contest for cash. First place winner was Kasey Maggard ($100 Visa card), second place winner was Zack Holbrook ($50 Visa card) and third place winner was Ally Couch ($25 Visa card), all from Perry County Central. Our residents love when our local youth celebrates weeks like this with us!

The favorite part of this week for residents and staff was our campfire (of course!). We roasted weenies, marshmallows, and made yummy s’mores. We want to thank everyone who helped make National Rehabilitation Awareness Week at Hazard HRC a success!
